Albums so far, this is what Jin thinks of the albums he dropped...

1. the rest is history (2004) - the big debut. this album was probably the most star studded affair out of all my projects. clef. kanye (pre-college dropout), styles, twista, etc. although i had all these great guest appearances and high profile producers, i feel like the project itself lacked an overall direction and cohesiveness. to me, this album was more of a learning experience than anything. about the business. the recording process. big ups to the r. fan faves: love story, same cry.

2. jin presents: the emcee's properganda (2005)- after a highly publicized & scrutinized "retirement" episode which all spawned from a record i released called "i quit", i went back to the studio to make a project that i felt truly represented what i bring to the table as an emcee. together with goldenchild, we set out to create an album that was very organic and had a back to the basics kind of vibe. without any label constraints or the pressures of "making a hit record", i feel like we accomplished what we set out to do. fan faves: top 5, no more fans

3. 100 grand jin (originally titled "a couple songs and some freestyles") (2006)- as you can see by the name of the original title this is exactly what it appears to be. more of a mixtape/album project than anything else. a combination platter of various jin treats. fan faves: fuck jay-z, long winding road

4. i promise (2006)- aka "the myspace album". as i was traveling in and out of town from doing shows i would dedicate a decent amount of time to hitting the studio for recording sessions. these sessions were for no particular project.. after a short period of time, i looked up and realized i had an album completed. me and the crafty team thought, "it's done, let's get this one straight to the fans.." thus, the myspace only release. alot of ya'll purchased this one directly from this profile: signed, sealed & delivered. fan faves: chinese food, i promise (i promise can now be purchased @ cdbaby.com/jin)

5. abc (2007) - the most recent addition to the jin discography. this is my first album ever recorded entirely in cantonese. i was on my way back from a show in hong kong late last year and it struck me that it was time for this album to be done. over all the years thru out my career, i was always asked, "do you rhyme in cantonese? would you ever do an album like that?". i guess the answer is "yes". produced entirely by the far eastie boys, this is one of my most personal and proudest pieces of work. check out myspace.com/officialabcjin for some samples. fan faves: yum dom cha, speak can't read

6. from this day on (TBA) - work in progress.

looking back, it's been a crazy adventure. thru all the releases, performances, ups and downs.. it really would not mean anything without you, the fan. i can assure you that it's only gonna get craftier from this point on...

i've come to realize that the best part of all this is the constant growth and self discovery as an artist/individual. i love pushing and challenging myself with each new endeavor.

The album has the production level similar to TRIH with the organic lyrics of The Emcee's Properganda.

Imagine putting together Jin's freestyle battle punchlines with a fresh hook and hot beat. That's exactly what you get in the album opener, Track 1 "Name Calling." Punchlines such as "...Not Bruce Leroy, nah I'm Bruce Lee resurrected as an Emcee slash B-Boy" is a great treat for fans that have followed his battles. The energy level surpasses any of his previous LP tracks.

Then, the album moves into "Yeah" and "Determination." Besides the beats, there really isn't much new. They remind me of his mixtape tracks where you have three intense 16s and a mediocre hook.

The collabo with Dina Rae gives Jin a new sound and style in "Doin' What I do." Lyrics aren't as deep, but it has potential club play.

The most noticeable change from his Myspace singles is the new beat for "I Download." The single version had a great beat, but I personally think this LP version is better. It's crisp, more entertaining, and compensates for the delivery which was a little monotone. You'll see what I mean when you check it out.

His main single 36-24-36 needs little commenting. It has simplified lyrics, a catchy hook, and dance beat. I'm glad Jin finally has a club worthy track. I actually heard it at a club two weeks ago before the album even dropped.

"Perfect Strangers" featuring Bryan Ellis is similar to his "Love Story." For fan's who felt like his "So Sick remix" needed more verses, well here it is. Bryan gives us the RnB feel with his smooth vocals. Very interesting track. I won't spoil it for anyone.

"Clap your hands" is obviously intended for the club. I fast forwarded after hearing the hook, so I'll have to listen to it again..maybe. haha.

On the other hand, "Can't wait feat YungMac and Dina Rae" has that radio play feel. Dina Rae sounds hot, but I'm not a big fan of YungMac, so no comment on him. Overall a decent track after a couple listens.

"Crafty Awards Skit" is comical yet sad when the announcer announces that Jin wins the Crafty Award by default since there are no other nominees. I got to admit, Jin's a lonely Asian man in the American music industry. Following the skit, the album slows down in "Award show." It's a more mellow track, but has the classic hip hop flavor to it. I likess. Jin gets more emotional in "Chinese Food" which is a grand dedication to his grandfather. Not a bad track either.

The flutes in "I promise" also gives a new production for Jin. The hook could have been better, but lyrics and production make up for it. Overall it's a decent track, nothing crazy for the clubs or anything like that.

The album is definitely worth your $, especially if you got the signed version. There were a couple songs that were at the level of TRIH and could have been better, but that's only because Properganda was so raw. Jin delivered new styles and demonstrated that he can do more than freestyling. He said he needs a hot beat--the 5th element of hip hop--in Properganda, and sure got plenty of those in I Promise. One thing I think could have made the album even more interesting was including a track produced by the Golden Child and Team Westward. However, I see the direction Jin is moving towards and is probably the best route for him.

Name Calling : Def. a good way to start the whole start of "I Promise" Album. Jin str8 comes hard over, a hard knocking beat, with a kick that will blow your subs out the box.
Jin dug deep and went back to the days before he had a deal and put out this hard hitting battle verse.

Yeah : Agian, this track is this another one you think he did before he even had a deal, real hunger. The beat is very nice to, another low drum to keep those subs struggling to keep from catching fire. To me the hook could use somthing it seems its missing somthing, but its still a hard track over-all. Jin is really put his pen to work, no lazyness or crap lines for the last 4 bars just to finish the song off.

Determination : This is my favorite track. This shit will give you chills once you hear this instrumental Jin proceeds to give a cesection to. AGIAN, Jin is pouring his heart out letting you know he's going to the top weather it kills him or not.
"Im not the physical type, but lyrically I might make it so you don't walk the rest of your life" had me laughing.
Jin goes too hard on this track to prove he is one of the most gifted rappers ever to bless a microphone.

Doin what I do Feat. Dina Rae : His first club song you get to on the CD, with vocals from Em's "go to girl" to be honest they sound good together, doubling each others vocals. At first the beat sounds like some str8 ryder shit, cause the way his producer programed his drums, the very low rugged kick, later gets flooded by bassline and light percussion. Its a Nice track overall but I can't see this getting play in the clubs since the south has pretty much set the standard for what you need to have a club banger.

Myspace Collabo Skit Feat. Chinchilla(DoubleBarrellShottyTripleAllaDoshis) : Shit's coo, I was laughin my ass off cause they actually took the time to make song for this guys (Chinchilla) fake myspace song. Turn the skit up and you can hear it, typical gun clappin I got this and I got that.

I download(New Production/Version 2) : This is a nicer version of the song, personally I wouldn't of bumped this in the car on a night out, but with the new instrumental it makes it much easier, to get into. Its amazing also how indepth Jin can get into just the topic of "downloading" and making it sound good. Overall a great track, because he stays on the topic of the song, and agian does not get lazy with his 16s.

36.24.36 : Dope, club song, and hope it gets some good rotation when people get up to speed on the album. When you click the track you can all ready tell it has that commercial appeal to it, Jin changes up the flow, and keeps it pretty simple, giving praise to asian women all around the globe. Well rounded track, and the production is real crazy on this, thought the neptunes did this joint because of that string that comes thru the track everynow and then.

Just listen to this album cause it def. worth it. Jin went somewhere else with this album.

The video clip above was uploaded by my good friend, Carl. It was filmed I'd say about 3 years ago at a hotel (hence the balcony setting & bathrobe steez) that we were staying at in LA. It's basically a short clip on how me and Kamel met. For those of you that don't know, Kamel is my manager. More than that, he is also one of my closest friends, a business partner, spiritual advisor and all around go-to guy when I am in need of guidance. Basically, he's like "the older brother I never had". This clip is actually the inspiration behind this entry...

To have people that support you and have interest in your general well-being is a gift that should not be taken for granted. After contemplating about all the ups and downs of my life and career it is reassuring to know that I have certain individuals that are by my side thru thick and thin. These people that consist of my family, friends and fans may be limited but I'd rather have a small group of people that I know I can always count on than a army of wishy washy characters who may turn their back on me at the drop of a dime. To the people not in the latter group, I salute and thank you.

Do you have someone or people that you know you can always count on? It might not hurt to let them know you appreciate it.
